Hatha yoga uses physical postures, controlled breathing, relaxation
and meditation to balance mind and body. Yoga helps build flexibility
and strength, improve range of movement, promote circulation, and
decrease tension. People who practice yoga often find yoga generates
a sense of inner peace and well being.
In our classes we adapt yoga practice for practitioners who are
elderly or physically challenged. Classes generally start with centering;
we take time to get settled and focus on our breathing. From there
we move to physical postures. Depending on the type of class, postures
may be done standing, sitting in a wheelchair, lying on the floor,
or any combination of these. After doing physical postures, we will
do some breathwork. Every class ends with a period for relaxation.
Yoga can be adapted to suit every individual's needs. It is our
belief that everyone can practice yoga. We offer a range of classes
as well as private lessons so that people can work at a level that
is appropriate for their body.
