  Testimonials

Here's what our students have to say about practicing yoga.

"I wouldn't have believed the positive impact yoga would have on my health and my life. My walking and balance have improved and my co-ordination is much better. Power of Yoga has stopped my MS from progressing and has turned back the clock on about a year's worth of progression. For the above I am grateful and would recommend the yoga studio for anyone who is interested in exercise and is unable to do 'regular' yoga." Ilona N.

"Being able to understand balance with mind and body is the underlying energy that I have lost because of my disability. Yoga helps me to rebalance and re-energize my body." Michelle Amerie

"Yoga sessions with Jackie at Power of Yoga has been a positive experience for me. It has improved my flexibility and relieved a lot of stiffness from my joints. I can do things that I thought weren't possible before. After each session, I feel relaxed and have better circulation. I highly recommend it." Patricia C.

“The gentle yoga classes provided by the Power of Yoga Foundation has made a dramatic difference in my general well-being. Initially, I approached yoga, and the Foundation, with hesitation and anxiety like any other treatment I was seeking in managing my Fibromyalgia. Bed-ridden for years, I had been accustomed to countless combinations of medications proving inefficient and specialists who classified my condition as unique and therefore problematic. Although diet and some alternative therapies provided some pain relief, over time, my condition plateaued as my body recognized the “changes” I made as routine. Disappointed and desperate, I was suspect: could yoga really help? Jackie Jelinek’s encouragement to combine a regular yoga practice with my reformed lifestyle properly in place instigated my eventual rehabilitation. Reluctant to attend classes, as some sessions magnified my pain in places I had protected for too long by over-compensating counter movements and muscle groups that were easier to achieve and utilize, I persevered; my efforts always met with tenderness, care, and concern by Jackie who would customize classes to my individual needs. Props were often used to adapt poses so that the maximum benefits of the class were achieved given my limitations. Within my first year of regular yoga practice, I lost 20 lbs., had further minimized the pain in my body, lessened my bouts of chronic fatigue and developed enough stamina and concentration to complete, not only one task a day, but sometimes two or three. I was also able to overcome my fear in working a job with structured hours and physical labour and took on part-time work, with some difficulty, but with much satisfaction. Five years later, as I continue to manage my condition, my greatest reward that I had never suspected in attending yoga classes, are the friendships I have formed with my fellow students and Jackie, who continues to be my mentor in many things extending beyond yoga. The advantage? I can now say thank-you, not from my bed, but standing-up: on my own two feet!” – N. Shahinian
